Robert Douglas Billet

Robert D. Billet is the founder and managing partner of the firm.  Bob graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1980, and received his law degree in 1983 from the Temple University School of Law.  He started the firm in 1991.  Bob is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Maryland in all state and federal courts.  He has a Martindale-Hubble AV Preeminent rating.

Bob has tried and argued numerous cases and appeals in both state and federal court over 31 years of practice, including 42 jury trials, as well as arguments before the Pennsylvania and New Jersey Supreme Courts and the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.  He practices in a variety of litigation fields, including environmental and toxic torts, product liability, general liability, business litigation, liquor liability, construction defects, professional malpractice, municipal and civil rights, trucking and transportation, employment claims, and insurance coverage and bad faith.  Bob has been lead counsel in the Blue Bell Gulf Litigation, which resulted in a defense verdict in a 50,000-gallon gasoline spill with $121,000,000 in claims after two months of trial in 2007.  He is a frequent lecturer on issues of environmental law, insurance coverage, product liability, and bad faith, as well as trial practice.  He also sits as a judge pro tempore in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas.  Bob has been voted a Philadelphia Super Lawyer, and has been selected to Top Attorneys in Pennsylvania.

Bob has memberships in the American (member: Section of Litigation; Tort, Trial, and Insurance Practice Section; Section of Environment, Energy, and Resources, Environmental Litigation and Toxic Torts Committee), Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Philadelphia, and Montgomery County (PA) Bar Associations, as well as the Pennsylvania Defense Institute, the Defense Research Institute, the Philadelphia Association of Defense Counsel, RIMS, the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance (CLM), and the Pennsylvania Surplus Lines Association.

As a former discus and hammer thrower, and Captain of the University of Pennsylvania Track & Field Team, Bob remains active in track and field as an official at the Penn Relays, and recently at the National Veterans Wheelchair Games.  He is also a Coast Guard certified sailor, a SCUBA diver, and a bread baker.
